Start with how you want to play
Choosing a game starts with the player, not the lobby. A new casino can list hundreds of titles, and most of them differ in three ways: how much each round risks, how many rounds you play per hour, and whether your choices matter.
- Risk: high-volatility slots pay rarely but big; baccarat and even-money roulette bets swing less.
- Company: live dealer tables give you a dealer and a chat; RNG games are solitary and faster.
- Time: a slot can play 600 spins an hour; a live blackjack table plays about 60 hands. More rounds per hour means more expected loss per hour.
Risk describes the size of the swings, not the cost of the game. A volatile slot and a steady baccarat bet can have a similar house edge and still feel very different. Pace is the multiplier that turns a small edge into a real cost. Decide your session budget first, then pick the game whose pace lets that budget last.
Compare the house edge
The house edge is the share of each bet the casino keeps over the long run; RTP is the rest. On ₱1,000 bet, a 1% edge costs about ₱10 on average and a 5% edge about ₱50.
| Game and bet | House edge | RTP |
|---|---|---|
| Blackjack, basic strategy, 3:2 table | about 0.5% | about 99.5% |
| Baccarat, Banker | 1.06% | 98.94% |
| Baccarat, Player | 1.24% | 98.76% |
| Craps, Pass Line | 1.41% | 98.59% |
| European roulette (single zero) | 2.70% | 97.30% |
| Sic Bo, Big or Small | 2.78% | 97.22% |
| Typical online slot | 3% to 6% | 94% to 97% |
| American roulette (double zero) | 5.26% | 94.74% |
| Baccarat, Tie at 8:1 | 14.36% | 85.64% |
The house edge describes the long run, so it cannot predict a single session. In a short session a 5% edge can still leave you ahead, and a 1% edge can still leave you behind. The figure matters because it is the only number that does not depend on luck.
The house edge differs by bet inside the same game. Baccarat shows this clearly: the Banker bet costs 1.06%, while the Tie bet costs 14.36%. A game's edge is therefore a property of the bet you place. Compare bets, not only game names.
Slots are listed as a range because the edge is set by the game version. The same slot title can run at different RTP settings at different casinos, so check the info screen before you play.
Skill or chance
Only blackjack, video poker and poker against other players reward decisions. Baccarat, roulette, sic bo and slots are pure chance: no system changes their edge, so choose the bet with the lowest edge and the stake you are comfortable with.
Skill games reward study. Blackjack rewards you for memorising a basic strategy chart, which tells you whether to hit, stand, double or split for every hand. A skilled player lowers the house edge, and an unskilled player raises it. Learning takes a few sessions in demo mode.
Chance games reward discipline instead. In baccarat, roulette and sic bo you cannot lower the edge by playing better, so your decisions are limited to which bet to place and how much to stake. That is why avoiding the Tie bet in baccarat and the double-zero wheel in roulette is the most useful step in those games.
The main game types at new casinos
- Slots: most of any lobby. Check the RTP in the game's info screen, since many slots exist in several versions. See what RTP means.
- Baccarat: the most played live table in Asia. New baccarat casinos.
- Blackjack: the best odds if you learn the basic strategy chart. New blackjack casinos.
- Roulette: European single-zero wheels only. New roulette casinos.
- Sic Bo and Dragon Tiger: fast Asian dice and card games; stick to the simple bets.
- Craps: rare online, but the Pass Line is a good bet. See craps for beginners.
Slots suit players who want low effort and a wide choice of themes. Slots also carry the widest range of edges, so the RTP check matters more here than in any other category.
Baccarat suits players who want a low edge without learning a strategy. Baccarat has only three bets, and the Banker bet is the cheapest of them. Blackjack suits players who want to influence the result and are willing to learn a chart.
Roulette suits players who want simple bets and a clear payout. Roulette on a single-zero wheel costs about half as much as the double-zero version. Sic Bo, Dragon Tiger and craps are fast, so they work best with small stakes and a firm session limit.
Test before you pay
Most slots and RNG table games have a free demo. Play 100 rounds to learn the rules and the rhythm, then set a stake that lets your session budget last at least 100 rounds for real.
A demo answers three questions that a description cannot: whether you understand the rules, whether the speed suits you, and whether the game keeps you interested when nothing is at stake. If a game confuses you in demo mode, it will cost you more with real money.
Write down the budget before the first real round and stop when it is spent. A lower edge slows your losses but does not remove them, so treat any real-money session as entertainment with a fixed cost.
