Online gambling is increasingly becoming widespread in the United States after the Supreme Court overturned the PASPA (Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act) in 2020. This is backed by recent investigative research, showing most online gamblers are becoming increasingly overwhelmed by consistent promotional materials from iGaming providers.

Study Reveals Internet Gamblers in the US Overwhelmed by Promotional Materials

According to the research by Optimove, 86% of customers opted out of iGaming providers due to overwhelming "irrelevant emails/text or push notifications." The study further added that 30% of the surveyed participants felt that marketing and promotions were too much, while 68% considered them just enough.

Although many people said that promotions were why they unsubscribed from regulated operators, 54% of respondents reported that bonuses and promotional offers were what they enjoyed the most while partaking in online sports betting and casino games.

Meanwhile, the poll revealed that 58% of participants reported an upsurge in their gambling expenditures from the previous year. The majority attributed their decision to spend more on regulated casinos to their trust in the overall economy.

Of those surveyed, the vast majority (85%) said they gamble at least once weekly. Also, 59% of the respondents reported playing internet casino games and betting on sports more frequently since the pandemic ended.

Optimove added that most participants in the survey reported that they rely on web-based tools to regulate their gambling activities and keep their losses within their budget. Despite most people (76%) favoring sports betting over gambling, a significant number of them (70%) still reported playing casino games.

But on the flip side, 58% of the respondents said the most irritating part of playing online was the slow pace of withdrawals.

While releasing the report, Optimove said:

"iGaming operators should prioritize competitive odds, a user-friendly interface, and generous bonuses to enhance player loyalty. Responsible gambling tools are vital for trust and player retention. Personalized, relevant messages via preferred communication channels are essential to avoid marketing fatigue."

According to the most up-to-date USA gambling statistics, the number of active gamblers stands at 57 million, with 2,000 casinos operating in the region. Most states continue to regulate online sports betting and gambling, with Kentucky being the latest market to launch in the United States.
